Although the site of a large quarry in Victorian times, Parbold quarry has been disused for over a century. Some smaller quarries are the location for some small scale modern housing development but the large-scale excavations now form the site of a large lake which is sited on private land. The place is full of botanical and bird life and on the day I visited, a par of hen harriers were soaring over the lake, hunting for prey.
