Professor Joanna Verran is one of the partners in a £4 million EU funded Integrated Project, (PathogenCombat project), which is a working to find out how existing and emerging food pathogens can be controlled. Professor Verran’s contribution is part of the 'Hygienic Processing Systems Work Package'. Her group will be working on factors affecting the retention of microorganisms and organic food material on food contact surfaces, in order to develop improved surfaces, hygienic design and cleaning regimes. The interdisciplinary nature of the research in the Dalton Research Institute has placed us in an excellent position to carry out this research which will involve surface-engineering, microbiology, and a wide range of analytical techniques. Environmental Concerns The group has run several energy-related seminars
